The Pursuit of God
By A.W. Tozer.
Its Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties and Roots
By J.C. Ryle (300p). This is considered one of the best and most definitive books ever written on personal holiness. Here is a chapter by chapter study guide with questions for reflection. Or, try Tim Challies 8 week study of the first 8 chapters of the book (140p), covering Introduction, Sin, Sanctification, Holiness, The Fight, The Cost, Growth, Assurance (use these links since his site has broken links and is hard to track down everything easily). Or, listen to the audio version.
Overcoming Sin and Temptation:
By John Owen (updated). A near 500 page book, absolutely phenomenal wisdom here and it’s FREE! (Or get it in book form.) Covers “Of the Mortification of Sin in Believers,” “Of Temptation: The Nature and Power of It,” and “Indwelling Sin.” I guarantee you will not find any resource in the modern world as effective in dealing with sin.
Meditations of a Christian Hedonist
If you haven’t read this modern classic you are missing out on the fuel that propels the Christian life. If I could only have two books on a desert island, one would be my Bible, the other would be this book.
A Hunger for God:
Desiring God through Fasting and Prayer
by John Piper.
The Pleasures of God:
Meditations on God’s Delight in Being God
Check out the links on the right hand side of the page. Read a chapter, then listen to a sermon that corresponds to that topic. After a few chapters then tune in to a round-table discussion and squeeze the truth for all of its nourishing elixir.
The Purifying Power of the Promises of God
A reflection for each day of the month.
Love in Hard Places
by D.A. Carson
The Four Loves
